TIA and Vodafone Bring Airbus Technology to Tirana
Vodafone Albania and Tirana International Airport (TIA) officially launched on Monday, May 25, the initiative “Security that travels with you”, a strategic investment now implemented at the country’s main airport.
Through this initiative, TIA becomes the first airport in the Western Balkans to deploy Airbus’ airport safety solution part of Vodafone Group’s global partnership with Airbus, powered by Vodafone Albania’s 5G network.
The strategic collaboration between Vodafone Albania, Tirana International Airport and Airbus marks a significant step in transforming airport operations, enabling real-time communication, advanced coordination, improved emergency response and enhanced security management.
The solution provides direct support to airport operational teams, allowing more efficient communication and faster coordination across all airport processes.
The “Security that travels with you” initiative reflects a clear approach: leveraging Airbus’ advanced technology, supported by Vodafone Albania’s 5G network, to deliver higher standards of safety and efficiency for both employees and passengers.
Vodafone Albania’s role in this initiative goes beyond connectivity. The company acts as a full builder and integrator of critical infrastructure, ensuring the seamless performance of the airport’s security and communication systems.
Piervittorio Farabbi, Chief Operating Officer of Tirana International Airport, highlighted the strategic importance of the project:
“Today, Tirana International Airport is taking a major step forward by implementing Airbus’ mission-critical communication platform, supported by Vodafone Albania’s advanced 5G connectivity. Together, we are building a resilient digital infrastructure that ensures safer operations, real-time coordination, and supports the sustainable economic development of Albania.”
Balázs Révész, CEO of Vodafone Albania, emphasized the company’s evolving role as a technology partner:
“This project clearly demonstrates that Vodafone’s role today goes far beyond traditional telecommunications. Through partnerships with global leaders such as Airbus and strategic institutions like Tirana International Airport, we are bringing international expertise, proven technologies and advanced standards to Albania, supporting the effective operation of critical infrastructure. Our ambition is to be the trusted technology partner that helps build the digital foundations underpinning the modern economy.”
Lionello Ginelli, Key Account Manager for Southern Europe at Airbus Public Safety and Security, explained the practical implementation:
“By combining Airbus’ Agnet mission-critical platform with Vodafone’s premium connectivity, we are delivering a complete, high-level solution tailored to the needs of users.”
The communication system deployed at TIA is based on Airbus’ push-to-talk technology, a platform widely tested in aviation, public safety and critical infrastructure environments.
This solution enables secure, instant communication across all operational teams, advanced coordination in emergency situations, real-time security management, and full integration with the airport’s existing infrastructure.
Through its 5G network, Vodafone Albania continues to support the digital transformation of national critical infrastructure, delivering advanced technological standards for airport operations and security.
