People living with AIDS or infected with HIV do no suffer only from a health problem, but also from social stigmatization. In Albania the last statistics show that there are 359 people diagnosed with HIV positive till November 2009. Among them 21 are children diagnosed with HIV positive and 19 living with AIDS. Children with AIDS or HIV positive experience a harsh reality that lacks a future prospective and the space to dream about possibilities. Thus, there is an immediate necessitate to address the rights and needs of these children. Vodafone Albania Foundation in partnership with the Albanian Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) aims with this project to improve the life conditions of children with HIV. The team of PLWHA will reach out to 19 children providing them with a new bed, a TV, a PC with internet connection, and courses in computer, language and vocational courses for them and their parents. It is crucial that the children are well informed and up to date regarding their disease. Also, it is very important that they and their families do not feel isolated. Thus, PLWHA has thought of creating a virtual space and a blog where the HIV positive children and their families can discuss with each other and connect with other people that share the same problem. This project also advocates for the special rights of HIV positive children, to create and standardize models for caregiving and supporting HIV positive children and their families.
