The new generation of iso-polyphonic singers
Roland is a master of iso-polyphonic singing that feels the moral obligation to pass on this ancient tradition to the next Albanain generation. Iso-polyphonic singing is deeply intertwined with Albanian national identity and has been recognized as an Intangible World Heritage by UNESCO because is in danger of vanishing since there hardly any followers. He shall dedicate a year to the creation of a group of youngsters to whom he will teach iso-polyphonic singing. He will select and teach 14 pupils from public secondary schools. The lessons will last 9 months and will be finalized with a public concert given by the new singers of iso-polyphony. Moreover, a CD will be produced, which will make possible the continuance of the lessons for next year. Rolando’s initiative has the support of “Gjirokastra Conservation and Development Organization”, a local NGO focused in the preservation of the Albanian culture heritage.
