As in the previous year’s partnership with Partners for Children, this project successfully continued to greatly improve the quality of services and care for early childhood education in marginalized and remote areas of Kukes and Has Districts. The number of “Gardens of Mothers and Children” centres has been brought to 7 and 5 state kindergartens, operating in the villages of Kalisë, Bushtricë, Orcikel, Sefoll, Palush, Fshat, Kalimash, Osmanaj, Kolesjan, Brekije Topojan and Mholaj. Of these, 2 Gardens of Mothers and Children Centres were newly opened and 5 kindergartens were newly equipped during this year. Thanks to this unique experience 264 children are taking part in child-centred activities; 158 in the Gardens of Mothers and Children Centres and 108 in 5 state kindergartens. Seven staff and 30 volunteers from the centres, plus 5 educators from the state kindergartens also received enhanced training on early childhood education and care. A most noteworthy aspect of this project though, is the great involvement of the community; from mothers volunteering their time, fathers providing their time to maintain the premises, generous community members or communes who contribute rooms for the centres and salaries paid by the Directorate of Education in Kukes. This communitywide involvement in the project will ensure that it remains sustainable even after it is completed.
