Vodafone Albania Foundation supports Special Olympic Games
05.07.2010Vodafone Albania Foundation in cooperation with Special Olympics Albania, under the special attention of the President of the Republic H.E. Mr. Bamir Topi, organizes for the first time in Albania the Special Olympic Games, held on 28-30 October at “Don Bosco” Social Center in Tirana.
250 athletes representing 12 teams from 9 districts, respectively from Berat, Durres, Elbasan, Lezha, Korca, Pogradec, Shkodra, Tirana and, Vlora from 5 disciplines, including football, basketball, table-tennis, athletics and bowling, joined more than 2,200,000 other athletes of this worldwide movement. These teams represent the six Rehabilitation Centers and six Educational Centers dedicated to people of special needs.
The funding of this Project was enabled through the contribution of Vodafone Albania sh.a. with a program of Vodafone Albania Foundation. For its implementation Special Olympics Albania was engaged, also with the support and contribution of and “Don Bosco” Social Center. This is another contribution to the community of people with limited abilities. Organization of these games aims at creating equal chances for this community.
Vodafone Albania Foundation started its activity in January 2008 and is currently funding 25 projects, including the rehabilitation of the school in Gërdec, projects helping communities of people with limited abilities, minorities and marginalized groups, education of children, and also public health and environmental issues. For the current year the Foundation is funding the total amount of 72,370,907 ALL.
“We are close to people in need because this is our way of responsibility towards the society we serve. Although we have funded a lot of projects we realize that there is still much to do” – said Mr. Albi Greva, Executive Director of Vodafone Albania Foundation, the organizer of this activity.
