Recycling as a way of contributing to the general health of Albania’s environment is still not as widespread as it could be in society. So it is that once again the Vodafone Albania Foundation took a leading role in the community, partnering with ASSA Zeitgeist to generate the second phase of the recycling project, which is now spreading the experience of ARK (Albanian Recyclers Kinostudio) to the poorest Roma communities in the industrial areas of Fier and Durres. Over 300 families in Durres, Fier and Tirana are benefiting from this project through employment in the recycling process, and 60 children of the recycler families of Kinostudio benefit through the educational, psychosocial and creative activities offered by the implementing organization, ASSA Zeitgeist. Partnerships agreements have been signed with 24 bars, clubs and restaurants so far. Additionally, 4 contracts with factories, which will recycle the collected material, have been achieved. The recyclers had already collected 5 tons of paper, 4500 bottles, and 10 tons of cans for recycling. At the same time this project also offers some educational, psycho-social & recreational activities for 60 children of the recycler families of Kinostudio. These activities focus on illiteracy courses, and assistance for school performance and attendance. Psychosocial assessment, counseling & intervention, summer school programs, and sportive activities between Roma and non-Roma children are also offered.
