Education for "street children" of Tirana
Blerina is a sociologist who has taken the challenge to make a world of difference for the “street children” of Tirana. These children come from vulnerable groups, such as families that live in extreme poverty, or come from cultural minorities, or have been victims of trafficking. Due to their delicate conditions they are forced to work and thus overlook their chance to education and proper childhood. Blerina’s project will offer crash classes for children who have never been to school, as well as life and social skills training sessions and group discussions with youngsters from regular schools. There will bee around 80 children participating in the classes and discussion groups and 20 professionals that will monitor and help in these sessions. This initiative is the first one that aims to build an official network of stakeholders and partners who already work substantially but separately in the cause. In the future this pilot project will be stretched in other cities of Albania. In her challenge, Blerina has the full support of CRCA- Children’s Human Rights Centre in Albania - a pioneer in the field of children rights and protection.
